On May 29 and May 30, the Caltech's collective bargaining representatives met with elected representatives and union staff members from the Caltech Graduate Researchers and Postdocs United (CPGU-UAW) bargaining units to discuss the terms and conditions of employment for all graduate students and postdoctoral scholars represented by the union. This was the first meeting of representatives from the Institute and the CGPU-UAW and it was by all accounts a productive session.
By the end of the bargaining session, Caltech and the elected representatives for the graduate student and postdoctoral scholar bargaining units reached tentative agreements on numerous articles, including workspace and materials, professional development and training, severability, complete agreement, and the creation of union management committees. All agreed upon articles will have to be ratified once the full contract is negotiated.
The next bargaining sessions will take place the week of June 17.
